The Town of Westlake Recreation Department operates the Westlake Recreation Center, Westlake Aquatic Center and Meadowood Golf Course.

There is also an abundance of parks in Westlake, including the Recreation Center Park, Bradley Nature Park, Clague Park, Roman Park, and Tri-City Park.

“Our parks include a wide variety of facilities such as sports fields, playgrounds, hiking trails, tennis courts, pickleball courts, pavilions, picnic areas, fishing ponds , a toboggan run and more, ”said Recreation Director Paula Horner.

Recreation Center

The Recreation Center, located at 28955 Hilliard Blvd., offers a wide range of facilities, including a large fitness center, basketball courts, indoor track, “Tot Room” for child care. ‘children, a variety of community meeting spaces available for hire, room locker with saunas, indoor aquatic center with lap pool, diving well, artificial river , water slides and a zero-depth entry pool with water games.

There is a wide variety of programs and activities offered throughout the year at the recreation center, Horner said.

It offers programs such as basketball for youth and adults, volleyball, indoor pickleball, group exercise programs, personal training, learn to swim and swim lessons. water exercises, day camps, dance lessons and more, she said.

Westlake Aquatic Center

The Westlake Aquatic Center and Peterson Pool, located at Clague Road and Hilliard Boulevard, have five bodies of water, including the Peterson Pool – a pool with a traditional diving board, a climbing wall, and a cove with seating and jets.

There’s also a waterslide plunge pool that features two-speed slides and a 6,600 square foot lazy river that features both passive and adventurous trails with water cannons and drain buckets.

There is an activity pool that ranges from zero depth to three feet and features a large interactive water feature with multiple levels and slides.

Finally, there’s the splash pad that encourages interactive play, Horner said.

The aquatic center also has a large swimming pool with shade structures and a pavilion.

The pool house includes a concession stand and changing rooms.

A wide variety of programs and events are also offered at the Aquatic Center during the summer months.

Meadowood Golf Course

Meadowood Golf Course, 29800 Center Ridge Road, is a public course that includes an 18-hole executive course and five regulation holes.

Youth golf courses and leagues are held in Meadowood throughout the summer.

A club house is available for rent all year round.

Currently, concept plans are under review for potential improvements to this facility, Horner said.

Special events

The recreation department also has several special events each year, including poolside parties, dive movies, egg hunts, annual fishing tournament, cardboard boat races, father-daughter dance, July 4th celebration including parade and fireworks, summer concert series, family camping. , Christmas in July, Health and Safety Show, Celebrate Westlake, Breakfast with Santa and more.

Coming additions

“An upcoming addition to the exceptional facilities available in the Town of Westlake will be the new Clague Park playground,” said Horner.

The playing field will feature a mounded area with elevated access to various slides and play structures as well as a poured rubber coating, she said.

There will also be play features like swings, ziplines, percussion play elements and more, Horner said.

The playground was designed to be very accessible, for use by people of all abilities, and will have a positive impact on the community, Horner said.

There will be an improved picnic area and an added nature trail.

“This exciting and dynamic new playground is currently under construction and is expected to open in 2022,” said Horner.

Horner touched on serving the community well with all recreation center departments and plans being made for the additions.
