Wareham November Council on Aging Activities


WAREHAM – The Wareham Council on Aging announces its activities for the month of November. Visit the city’s website for up-to-date information and to see a copy of the Senior Tag for a schedule of daily activities at https://www.wareham.ma.us/council-aging. (Please note that some dates and times have been changed after the Beacon went to press in November.) All activities take place at the Multiservice Center at 48 Marion Road, unless otherwise specified. The office hours of the Council on Aging are Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to noon. Wearing a mask is compulsory in all buildings in the city.

November 10 at 1 p.m .: Beginning of mandala classes. Learn how to make this mandala with full instructions. The class is limited, so please call 508-291-3130 to reserve your spot. * Note the Senior Beacon time and date change.

November 12 at 10:30 am: Garden therapy will take place with the Wareham Garden Club who generously provide the materials to create a beautiful arrangement. Class is limited to 18, so call to reserve a spot at 508-291-3130. * Note the date change from Senior Beacon.

Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m .: OPEN DOORS with a variety of activities. Learn how to make a sleeping bag from your used plastic bags; watch a demonstration of chair volleyball; learn to dance country line; meet with a SHINE representative to review your medical coverage; discuss with a representative of the Office of Assessors tax exemptions; meet the ladies who keep our office open on a daily basis to better serve you; Check out our new and improved Social Day Program facilities and enjoy some light refreshments provided with the help of the Wareham High School Culinary Class.

November 17 at 9:15 am: Greeting card class All material will be provided to complete 4 to 5 finished cards. Classes are limited, so register in advance at 508-291-3130. A donation of $ 3 is requested.

November 18: Dental services return to the ACO.Preventive dental services are again offered by Dental Hygiene Services. These services are covered by mass health standards and affordable rates are available for people without dental insurance. Call 508-827-6725 to make an appointment or for more information.

Nov. 19 at 5 p.m .: Compliments du COA dinner and film !! Join the ACO in the center community room for a free dinner cooked by the one and only mum Marys! Reservations must be made by calling 508-291-3130. * Note the date change from Senior Beacon.

November 19 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m .: Greater Food Bank of Boston will deliver food orders if you have already registered. * Note the date change from Senior Beacon.

Mahjong: The Cranberry Café is the Mahjong instructional venue for beginners every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. with Mahjong games starting at 1 p.m. Anyone interested in learning or playing is invited.

Cribbage: Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, enjoy a few games of Cribbage in room 208.

Making rugs for the homeless: All the material is provided for this community service on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. in room 102.

Knitting and crochet: Wednesdays at 10 a.m. bring your project and enjoy your craft with a cup of tea or coffee and a friendly chat.

Physical activities at the Multiservice Center: Chair volleyball Tuesday at 10 a.m., Tai Chi is Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., and chair yoga continues with Pam on Thursday at 2 p.m. Register for yoga by calling 508-291-3130. The 8-week walking group on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. continues on the college trail. Call 508-291-3130 to register.

Fitness classes with Marge Blinstrub temporarily at the Wareham Free Library, starts Mondays – Circuit classes 9 am-10am at $ 3 per class; and Fridays — Country Line Dancing from 9 am to 10 am at $ 3 per class. No need to register beforehand and pay at the door.

Weekly coffee and conversation: Join a lively group of seniors on Tuesdays 9-10 a.m. at the Cranberry Café.

Take-out lunches continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pick up free lunches courtesy of Old Colony Elder Services at the One Stop Center Handicap Ramp between 9:00 am and 9:30 am Lunches must be reserved at least three days prior to scheduled delivery by calling 508- 291-3130. The menu is available on Facebook.

Reminders: Senior Tax Work Program forms are available at the ACO office.

Volunteers are needed for the programs, Meals on Wheels, newsletters, etc. Forms available at the office or call 508-291-3130 for more information.

Virtual bereavement support group help is available by calling Ken at 508-399-5900.
