Tiger Talk: Highlights of Pine River-Backus Fall Activities

It was great to see our teams back in competition this fall and to have a lot of success. With the fall seasons reaching the playoffs, that also means winter activities are just around the corner. We look forward to a good start to these seasons as well.

Here are some highlights of the fall activity season for Pine River-Backus

Cross country

The PR-B cross-country team is having a strong season that continues on Thursday, October 28 with the Section 7A cross-country meet at Cloquet Country Club starting at 11 a.m. for the girls’ race and 11 a.m. h 45 for the boys’ race.

During the section meet, PR-B riders will compete for a spot at the Minnesota State High School League cross country meet, to be held on Saturday, November 6 at St. Olaf College in Northfield. .

Soccer

The Pine River-Backus football team closed the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 20 with a 16-14 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek to end the regular season at 7-1.

The Tigers won second place in the Section 6A playoffs and hosted third seed Lake Park Audubon on Tuesday night, October 26. If the Tigers moved forward, they would host either the third seed, New York Mills, or the sixth. Seeded Menahga at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30, for a chance to advance to the Section 6A football final on Friday, November 5 at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota.

Volleyball

The PR-B volleyball team concluded the regular season on Thursday, October 21 by winning the Upsala tournament to end the regular season with a 21-7 record.

The Tigers won first place in Section 5A Pod C and will host McGregor at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 29. If the Tigers advance, the next games will be at 6 p.m. on November 1 at Aitkin (neutral site) and 7:30 p.m. on November 4 at Crosby-Ironton (neutral site). At 2 p.m. on November 6, the Section Finals will be held at Crosby-Ironton (neutral site).

Autumn game

Rehearsals continue for the fall play as they prepare for the performances, which will take place November 12-14.

Robotics

The PR-B robotics team is busy preparing for the fall championship on October 29.

Fall sports for young people

The fall youth sports season ended with the following events:

  • The fifth / sixth grade volleyball competed in the Nevis round robin on Saturday, October 16.

  • Fifth / Sixth Grade Flag Football hosted Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Saturday, October 16.

  • Third / fourth year flag football traveled to Pequot Lakes on Thursday, October 16 for a round robin tournament.

  • Third / fourth year volleyball ended its season with an intra-team game on Tuesday, October 12.

Upcoming winter sports dates

  • October 25: Beginning of training for the dance season.

  • November 1: Beginning of women’s hockey training.

  • November 15: Beginning of training for women’s basketball and men’s hockey.

  • November 22: Beginning of basketball and wrestling training for the boys.
