Nupur Classical Dance Festival starting today

The 27th edition of the prestigious ‘Nupur’ – Classical Dance Festival jointly organized by Kala Academy Goa and West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur will be held from today until March 6th. at 7:00 p.m. courtesy of Shree Mahalasa Saunsthan, Mardol at the local Temple of Shree Mahalasa Devasthan, Mardol- Goa with the participation of nationally and internationally renowned artists in the field of classical dance. The festival will be inaugurated today by Sanjay Gihar, President, Kala Academy Goa and Secretary, Art & Culture, Government of Goa in the presence of Shrivallabh N. Pai Raiturkar, President of Shree Mahalasa Saunsthan and Gauri Phalgaonkar Shaikh, exhibiting Bharatnatyam at the aforesaid venue . Performances with live accompaniment will begin daily at 7:00 p.m.

The Kala Academy has invited top performers in the country in various dance forms in addition to renowned Goan artists to perform in this festival. After the inaugural ceremony on Friday March 4, 2022, Bharatanatyam (group choreography) dance will be performed by students from the Faculty of Indian Music and Dance, Kala Academy Goa in which Akruti Tamhankar, Amisha Adconkar, Gauravi Fadke, Kala Chaitrali, Tirtha Shetye, Ana Maria, Gauri Shanbag, Tanvi Desai, Kasturi Karkare, Manasvi Bodke, Smruti Ottur and Shilpa K. will participate under the guidance of Smt. Sapna Naik and Smt Mandira Tirodkar, Lecturers at Bharatnatyam, Faculty of Indian Music and Dance, Kala Academy Goa. The program of the first day will end with Kathak dance by Tejaswini Sathe & Group from Pune.

On Saturday, March 5, 2022, Mitali Naik, a talented performer of Goan Bharatnatyam, will present a Bharatanatyam dance recital at 7:00 p.m. It will be followed by Mohiniattam by Sujatha Nair from Mumbai.

On the closing day i.e. Sunday, March 6, 2022, the students of the Faculty of Indian Music and Dance, Kala Academy Goa will perform Kathak in Group Choreography at 7:00 p.m. in which Uma Naik, Sakshi Shetye , Shruti Gawas, Pratiksha Govekar, Navmi Naik and Arya Rege will participate under the guidance of Smt. Varada Bedekar, Lecturer in Kathak, Faculty of Indian Music and Dance, Kala Academy Goa followed by Bharatnatyam Dance by Meera Sreenarayanan from Chennai. The festival will end with Odissi Dance by Moumita Ghosh from New Delhi.

The organizers called on dance lovers, connoisseurs and students to attend the festival in large numbers. The program is open to everyone.
