GOC 1 Div calls for diligence in training activities 2022
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 1st Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Kabir Muktar has instructed the officers and men of the division to be diligent in carrying out the 2022 training activities .
Muktar gave charge on the occasion of the West African Social Activities (WASA) of the year 2021, held at Ribadu Cantonment on Saturday, Kaduna.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that WASA is a long-standing annual military tradition of celebrating an administrative year and training successfully.
He said the occasion was an annual event reflecting the rich tradition and cultural heritage of the officers, soldiers and families of the Nigerian Army (NA).
He added that the event was also an opportunity for the barracks community to refresh themselves in a relaxed atmosphere, while preparing for next year.
“The brilliant display of the various cultural troupes that performed is heartening as it affirms the long tradition that binds the Nigerian military to our cultural origins, which are never broken.”
The GOC noted that WASA provided a forum for social interaction and an opportunity for the general public to appreciate the immense and diverse customs and glamorous traditions of the barracks communities.
“This event is a testimony that the barracks is a melting pot of different cultures and social backgrounds,” he said.
He added that the event was also another forum to remember and pay tribute to fallen heroes, who paid the supreme price and sacrificed for peace in Nigeria.
“May their souls rest in perfect peace and may God grant their families the courage to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he prayed.
He instructed staff to maintain at all times the core values of loyalty, self-service, courage, discipline, integrity and respect for others.
“As you begin another training and administrative
year, I implore you all to stay focused and very resilient; you must avoid any act that may affect your ability to perform your duties in a professional manner,” he said.
Earlier, Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i said the 1 Division had every compelling reason to celebrate the end of 2021 activities as its officers and men remained determined to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities.
El-Rufai, represented by the Commissioner for Homeland Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said he was aware of the formidable achievements of the division in combating acts of crime and terror in their areas of ‘operation.
“I must commend your efforts to forge synergy and collaboration with other security agencies to ensure peace in your area of operations.
“The bravery displayed by your troops in the ongoing operations THUNDER STRIKE and DOMINION STORM is highly commendable and appreciated,” he said.
El-Rufai urged them to consolidate the gains in the coming days and months by creating an enabling environment where peace and security can be guaranteed.
“As you begin the 2022 activities, let me remind you of the need to be more focused and determined to address emerging security challenges in your area of responsibility.
“2022 will be filled with election activity, therefore, I implore you to remain firm and proactive in carrying out your professional responsibility,” he said.
NAN reports that the event was accompanied by displays of rich cultural dances and songs, competitions, among others, and awards were also given to staff who distinguished themselves in their various roles.
