Administrator’s Corner: An update on activities taking place within the Albert Lea School District – Albert Lea Tribune

Administrator’s Corner by Paul Durbahn

The school year has been a whirlwind so far for ALHS activities. Hard to imagine that we have completed a full fall season and are already starting our winter activities. We take great pride in that even during tough times our students always excel and we always celebrate our student successes. Whatever our circumstances, we have been able to provide strong and stable environments for our students, and we have had great success.

During this fall season, approximately 475 students in Grades 7 to 12 participated in a school sponsored activity. Educational activities are more important than ever to our students and their families, especially given our present times.

This fall we had another State Tournament appearance for the Albert Lea Tigers, as our men’s cross country team won a trip to the MSHSL State Tournament for the first time since 1981!

We had 44 students involved in our fall musical, “Mamma Mia”, directed by Ms. Diane Heaney. The amount of work that goes into this performance is enormous. What a great production it was, and it was great to see the community come out in waves and fill the auditorium!

Of our students in activities this fall, we had 250 of those students who earned a place on the honor roll by participating in an activity. We celebrated this by serving breakfast to all of them.

This school year, we have added college wrestling and a college dance team to our school sponsored activity offerings. This helps ease the burden on families and recall clubs and also makes them more accessible. We can only do this because our community supported our school district referendum. We will continue to adopt our activities in college and hope to have opportunities in college in all sports activities soon.

As we enter the winter season, I would like to thank our community for your support of our schools and student-athletes. The opportunities they have are very important, and we are very grateful that we can provide them.
