12 days of Christmas activities in downtown Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – The Town of Owensboro will host 12 days of Christmas activities this holiday season.

The Holiday Activity Series will run every weekend from November 26 to December 19.

“We do a lot of things throughout the year that everyone knows and it’s a very busy place, but for the holidays we don’t do anything really important, so we wanted to increase that,” Director of Events audiences for Owensboro Tim Ross mentioned.

“We had the idea of 12 days of Christmas with different activities for 12 days until Christmas a year and a half ago. Because of COVID, we’ve kind of put that aside, but now it’s back this year for the first time, ”Ross continued.

Officials say some activities will take place every weekend, such as the Energy on Ice outdoor rink at the Owensboro Convention Center.

They say other events will include Hot Chocolate Hop, Holiday Stroll, as well as productions at the RiverPark Center, Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Owensboro Convention Center.

“There’s a lot of activity happening all the time already anyway,” Ross said. “It is certainly not the city that creates all of this. The 12 Days basically market all of these individual events in those 12 days to bring people to Christmas and have different activities every weekend.

The town of Owensboro is also planning to unveil its new Dancing Lights exhibit at Smothers Park.

“Smothers Park will be illuminated by tens of thousands of lights,” Ross said. “Every 15 minutes from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., all of those lights will come on, the sound will come on with all of your favorite Christmas songs, and all of the lights will dance to the music, as well as the bridge lights on the Blue Pont.”
